1st time out with a bow

Saw 6 or 7 deer this afternoon. Got busted by a big doe on the way to my stand. Was going to hang it up, and go home but decided to stick it out. About a half hour later I saw another doe and 2 fawns. They stuck around for a little while then left. About an hour or so after that, a couple of more came out. As they got within shooting range, they ducked behind a tree. I drew my bow, and held it for what seemed an eternity. They were not playing fair , and after a couple of minutes I let the tension out of my bow. While they were busy feeding , and starting to move around, the arrow came off the rest, and string. It fell and hit a small sapling , then stuck in the ground. The deer took off about 40 or so yards into the tree line and stopped, so I knocked another arrow. I pulled out the Lil Can, and gave a couple of bleats, and they worked their way back to me. I got a broadside shot on the button buck at 25yds, and took it. The arrow hit it's target, the deer mule kicked and headed for the trees. I was shaking so bad , as this was my first deer with a bow. I really wanted to sit tight in the stand, but my impatience got the better of me. I went to where the deer was, and found my arrow with good blood on it. I looked around and could not find a single drop of blood on the ground. Seemed like every damned leave had red on it. So I walked to where I last saw the deer enter the tree line, still no blood. I was starting to get bummed. I figured I would go a few more yards, as light was getting low. About 40 more yards in I found him piled up. Perfect heart shot, and alot of blood on the ground, a ton more was in the cavity. Oh well filled the anterless tag, now time to find some horns..... |
