I played in HS and a little in college but while I like a good hockey fight I really don't see it as "the" element in the game. Making great plays is what gets me excited about the game.
I still think it is as exciting as is has always been, the game is faster now then ever and the players are in even better shape with a higher skill level.
Personally I don't want to see anyone killed or paralyzed playing the game...but a brawl due to a cheap shot on your A player is another story.
