My lights flicker on occasion and today when the wife and I came home they were out. Half of them, that is. I figured that one side of my service was kaput so I called NStar. After punching my lottery #s into the phone and not hearing another human voice, I just knew that I'd been blown off. Not so, got a call back and the nice young lady said that someone would be right there. Getouttahere, I thought. Five minutes later the lights come back on. 15 minutes later I hear a big deisel at the end of my drive and walk down to show the guy where I live. If I don't show ya , you won't find it. My service box tested OK, but the pole at my property line has a bad connection. It's deep in the hedges and he can't drive there. Worse yet ,it's my pole. It belongs to me, not NStar. And I own the problem, too. Now I have to find an electrician to do this. Anyone out there ever go through this before? How big a hassel am I in for?

Just to make you aware - If you have one leg of the line out, it could mean that the neutral is also loose. Don't waste any time in getting the problem fixed.
I lost the neutral in my home and I toasted my TV and stereo stuff. Also lost all fluorescent fixtures and a couple of motors. I was damn lucky that I lost it at night and most things in the house were off. When my son got up he turned the TV on and heard it pop - next thing he turned on was the lights in the bathroom. They burned with a high intensity. When seeing that I pulled the mains. At that time Edison was around and they also tried to disclaim any fault. It was the connection from their line to my house drop. The temporary connectors were there from when the electrician hooked me up. At that time they (Edison) were supposed to crimp connect the lines and didn't. I squawked and threatened to take them to court and they paid me for all work and damages. I bet NSTAR wouldn’t pay!

Also – during a snowstorm a few years ago, the house behind me lost the neutral and it started a fire. Nothing to fool with
