Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane and BIN is a good combo that works for me but I use rattle cans. You can cut the Helmsman with mineral spirits.

The SOL board has a good thread on a test they did...

Put the screw eye in, take it out, then seal. That way any thread impact will be made and sealed. Put it back in when you need it. :kewl:
